Middlefield

Middlefield is a substantial new stone home on the edge of a Northamptonshire village — and a genuinely sensitive spot. Building something brand new within a village of much older, characterful buildings meant it had to earn its place, answering both to its neighbours and to the conservation setting.

We drew closely on the scale, materials and rhythm of the older buildings nearby, so the house would sit quietly and confidently among them. It's being built in local stone by skilled stonemasons, to our design and a plan made for family life — and we've stayed involved as it goes up, keeping an eye on the detailing and material choices, and gently steering things towards what will last rather than simply what's quickest to build.

Still on site, but the shape of it is already reading well against the fields: a new home that looks as though it has always belonged, and is being made to last for generations.
