A new pre-school nursery for the village of Lavenham, built in engineered timber with a low-carbon approach at its heart. The building is a simple, generous gabled form, with round timber columns carrying the roof and cedar cladding wrapping the outside.
Much of the care went into the detail: the deep eaves and soffits, the way the columns meet the roof, and letting the natural, soft qualities of the timber show inside and out. The classrooms are tall, calm and full of daylight, with big windows looking onto the gardens.
