Cambrills

Cambrills is an old brick cottage tucked among fields — full of character, but tired, and not making the most of the countryside on its doorstep. The brief was to bring it gently up to date and open it to its setting, without losing the very things that made it special, and while respecting the constraints of an older building in a rural spot.

Our approach was careful and restrained: the soft red brick and clay-tiled roof repaired, brickwork exposed and warm stone floors laid inside, and a quiet extension designed to read as though it had always been there. New triple-glazed timber windows — specifically chosen for warmth, quiet and low running costs — and window seats frame considered views out, and a buttermilk-yellow kitchen with a Belfast sink and brass tap keeps things unshowy and timeless.

Old and new sit happily together, and the finished home feels rooted in its landscape — calm, characterful and unhurried to live in.
